Meet Nico!

Felix School 10th Grader

Nico is passionate about music, especially playing drums, and wants to work in the clean energy field after college. He is a multilingual student who is accelerated in math. His advisor, Sylvia Ramos, has been with Nico since he started at Felix in the 9th grade. His Success Coach, Markus, helps him with prioritizing his schedule. Nico’s multilingual Success Coach, Estefani, is supporting Nico to meet all English Language Arts standards.

Math: When Nico started at Felix, he already demonstrated mastery of half of the 9th grade math skills/standards. By the midpoint of 10th grade, he demonstrated proficiency on all 10th grade standards and most of the 11th grade standards.

English Language Arts: Upon enrollment Nico demonstrated language gaps when he started at Felix. By the beginning of 10th grade he closed most gaps, and is on track to being on-grade level for his English language skills by the end of the school year.

Wake up!
Quick walk with the dog, Sam
Breakfast with mom
8 AM

Take the T to my hub site, the West End House
Arrive, get settled, and review the day
9 AM

Time to prep for today’s seminar
Finish my reading for my upcoming seminar class, this week’s topic is “the ethical responsibilities of social media”
10 AM

Jump into the digital campus for seminar
11 AM

Just finished seminar. Have a few minutes to run upstairs to meet my friend Kelsey for a smoothie in the Teen Lounge.
Then, it’s time for self-guided strength training in the gym.
12 PM

Head to the West End House cafeteria for today’s lunch: fresh taco bowls with rice, beans, plantains, and guacamole
1 PM

Get settled in the Success Lounge upstairs for some independent study
Pick up my where I left off in Biology
Online lab: dissecting frogs
2:30 PM

Meet with my Success Coach, Markus
Review my pace plans for the week
Organize questions to ask my Science Learning Guide during office hours for bio, and talk about the opportunity to take AP Bio
3 PM

Take the T to work (paid internship at a local clean energy center)
Check-in with my manager
5 PM

Back on the T
Heading home for dinner!
Get settled at home
6 PM

Feed my dog, Sam
Do some reading for my lit class, and work on my math project for my small group tutorial tomorrow
7 PM

Dinner
8 PM

Organize my assignments for tomorrow and a to do list for the rest of the week
Catch up with my friend on video chat while catch some of the Celtics game on TV
10 PM

Day’s over, and ready for tomorrow!

- 7am: Wake up
- 8am: Take the T to West End House
- 9am: Time to prep for today's senior. Finish my reading for my upcoming seminar class.
- 10am: Jump into the digital campus for seminar.
- 11am: Just finished seminar. Check in with my Success Coach to talk through my plan for the rest of my day and completing todays' assignments before I get ready to leave for work.
- 12pm: Grab lunch from the hub site cafeteria and get a quick start on my next subject assignment before I head out the door to get to work.
- 1pm: Say good-bye to my success coach and friends, off to work.
- 2pm: Arrived at work.
- 6pm: Works is over, head home, use the T ride to listen to one of my lessons I still need to finish.
- 7pm: Feed my dog and have dinner. Take a few moments to chat with my family about my day and how things are going.
- 8pm: Get back online. Finish my work from the day, listen to any courses I had to pause earlier, and wrap up assignments for the next day. Email my bio Learning Guide just to recap where I am and ask a question about today's lesson.
